One More Warning for Rheumatoid Arthritis Drugs

The long list of safety warnings for a popular class of drugs used to treat several autoimmune disorders just got a little bit longer. The FDA said this morning that the drugs labels need to call out the risk of histoplasmosis, a potentially deadly fungal infection, associated with four drugs: J&J s Remicade, Abbott s Humira, UCB SA s Cimzia and Enbrel, co-marketed by Amgen and Wyeth. The drugs are used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn s disease, among other conditions.The agency has received reports of 241 cases of histoplasmosis in patients taking the drugs.
