Monthly 2-Dose Regimen Approved for Risedronate (Actonel) in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

On April 16, the FDA approved a new dose regimen for risedronate sodium tablets (Actonel, Proctor & Gamble Pharmaceuticals Inc) allowing patients the option of taking a 75-mg tablet on 2 consecutive days each month for the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.The convenience of a monthly 2-day dose may appeal to patients taking a daily 5-mg dose or weekly 35-mg dose, the company said in a news release.Approval of the 2-day monthly regimen was based on data from an active-controlled double-blind study(n = 1229), which showed that its use yielded similar increases from baselin...
